Presentation of 'annual report and recommendations of MSMC 2010', screening of a 15-minute documentary film and staging of cultural programmes on the theme 'unity in diversity' marked the Minorities Rights Day 2010 observance organised by Manipur State Minorities Commission at GM Hall here today.
The observance was held with Education Minister L Jayantakumar Singh and MSMC Chairperson IAS (Retd) MA Halim Choudhury as the chief guest and president respectively.
Lilong AC MLA Md Helaluddin Khan, Principal Secretary (Labour & Employment) AR Khan and Commissioner (MOBC) JC Ramthanga were also present as the guests of honour.

In his address as the chief guest, Jayantakumar iterated that ensuring right of an individual is the most important factor for progress of the society and there is need for exercising the right with due respect to rights of other citizens.
He explained that among others education of an individual is the most vivid example that a citizen's right has been guaranteed and justified for absence of education would not serve the purpose of rights being granted.
Emphasising that every effort should be made for education of all the citizens, the Minister called upon leaders of minority communities to guide the common public in reaping benefits being provided through various welfare schemes of the Social Welfare Department.
Speaking at the occasion, Helaluddin Khan desired that the majority community contribute their mite in the socio-economic development of the minorities and called upon the latter section for a pro-active approach to get their grievances addressed rather than rely on crying foul against the administration.
He suggest that plight of the minorities could be efficiently addressed in case it is highlighted to relevant officials of the State and Central govt. While MSMC Secretary Md Raheijuddin Shiekh (Shamu) delivered the key-note address and MLA Helaluddin Khan released the documentary film titled 'Minorities Marching Ahead', representatives of Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs and Muslims also spoke on the occasion.
