Imphal, December 18 2010:
The Chingjaroi Baptist Church on Friday organized the 100th anniversary of the entry of Christianity in the village.
Chingjaroi village which have around 270 households and a population of around 1500 is at a distance of 86 km along the Zesami road from the Ukhrul district headquarter.
The first ones to adopt Christianity in the village were R Khokham Lara, AS Charani, AS Kasuni, Ngalen and Asaren.
They were baptized by William Pettigrew in the year 1910 .
The anniversary celebration will be held from December 16 to 20.As part of the celebration, the new building of the Chingjaroi Baptist Church was also inaugurated.
It also coincides with the Platinum Jubilee of the Christian Youth Society.
Women of the village who have married to other villages were presented gifts as part of the celebration.
Villagers from 38 villages under the Northern Tangkhul Naga Baptist Association are attending the anniversary celebration.
Besides, Chakenshang tribe from Nagaland, Mao tribe from Nagaland and Meitei Baptist Church also attended the celebrations.
