'Increasing shelter homes portray distressing side of society'

Former Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya appealed to the elderly people staying in old age homes to lead a contented life leaving aside depressive factors.
Dr Thokchom Meinya was speaking as the chief guest at the 5th foundation day celebration of Old Age Home at Langjing Achouba in Imphal West district today.
While commending the efforts of the Old Age Home management committee for providing shelter and taking care of the elderly persons, he appealed to all to extend best possible help for the upliftment of such homes.
Delivering the keynote address of the programme, secretary of the Home, KC Gita expressed gratitude to all who have extended support to the Home ever since its inception in 2019 .

She expressed belief that such love and support will continue in future as well.
During the programme, certificates of honour were presented to 32 donors of the Old Age Home while the inmates were presented traditional handloom shawls.
Speaking at the occasion, social and cultural activist Rakesh Naorem stressed that the rising number of old age and shelter homes in the State is not a good sign since it portrays the distressing side of the society where the younger generation fails to take the responsibility of the elderly people.
Expressing concern on the degrading bond of love and care among the parents and the children, he highlighted the need of inculcating more moral education chapters in the school curriculum.
The programme was also attended by Dr Laishram Boby; Dr Kshetri Tama and RK Maipaksana as presidium members among others.
