Thoubal, February 18 2023:
While pointing out that all the inter-village roads passing through Ukhongsang village are in deplorable condition, Oneness Maiden Group (OMG) along with villagers of Ukhongsang cautioned of launching different forms of intense protests if authorities concerned fail to repair the roads or give assurance for developing the same within five days.
Demanding construction of the road, young maidens of OMG along with local clubs and Meira Paibi convened a public meeting and later took out a protest rally in the village.
During the rally, the protestors held placards inscribed with words 'We need clean environment for healthy life', 'Allow students to go to school' 'The dust from the road are causing numerous illness' and 'Is Heirok AC bereft of authority or leader?' among others.
Speaking in this regard, OMG president Renuka Thangjam pointed out that roads in Ukhongsang village including the 3.5 km long road from Salungpham to Ukhongsang, 2.5 km stretch from Hijam Khunou to Aripat Ching passing Salungpham and 1.5 km Ukhongsang to Nongpok Sekmai road are in dilapidated conditions for the last 20 years.
The young generation have never seen blacktopped road in the village, she continued.
As the roads had been filled with dust, passenger vehicles shy away from the village while students must travel the same dusty roads as there is no option left, Renuka maintained and informed that numerous accidents had also occurred due to bad condition of the roads.
While regretting that the local MLA has failed to translate into action assurance given to repair or develop the road within January, she urged the state government, the chief minister and local MLA in particular, to repair the road within five days.
OMG along with local clubs and meira paibi will launch different forms of protests if authorities fail to honour the genuine proposals and grievances of the people, she reiterated.
