OMG, Ukhongsang villagers warn of agitation if road not repaired

Villagers of Ukhongsang and Oneness Maiden Group (OMG) have appealed to the authorities concerned to commence repair work of all the roads passing through the village within 5 days and warned of agitation in case of failure to comply with their demands.
Members of OMG along with local clubs and Meira Paibis today staged a sit-in at the village ground followed by a protest rally across the village.
Speaking to media persons, Renuka Thangjam, president of OMG, stated that the roads passing through the village namely, Salungpham to Ukhongsang road (3 Km), Hijam Khunou to Aripat Ching via Ukhongsang (2.5 Km) and Ukhongsang to Nongpok Sekmai (1.5 Km), has not been repaired for many years and are in deplorable conditions.

She continued that the deplorable condition of the road has caused a lot of hardship to the people including frequent accidents and health concerns for the villagers.
"Even passenger vehicles have refused to come to the village due to poor road conditions", she asserted.
Renuka Thangjam further urged the local MLA and Chief Minister to look into the matter and initiate repair work or give assurance to repair the road within 5 days, failing which OMG in coordination with local clubs and Meira Paibis will launch a series of agitation.
Placards with the slogans such as, "We need a clean environment for healthy life", "No leader, No development", "Let children walk cleanly to schools", etc were used at the sit-in and protest rally.
