Thoubal, April 05 2023:
Accusing the Kakching Municipal Council (KMC) of engaging in 'dishonest' deeds, volunteers of Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association (KBBWA) and Senior Citizen Forum Kakching (SCFK) locked the office of the Council, today.
Before locking the office, the irate locals staged a rally from Kakching supermarket and to KMC.
Speaking to the media, president of KBBWA Nongmaithem Sanatomba claimed that the KMC increased the fee of collecting solid waste from Rs 50 to 100 abruptly, distributed litre bins without lids and attempted to swindle the money sanctioned for the people through 15th Finance Commission and other sources by colluding among Executive Officer, caretaker Chairperson and Councillors.
He also accused the KMC of taking parking fee and toll tax in advance for six months and failing to implement the Housing for All scheme transparently.
Claiming that KMC is not working up to the expectations of the people, Sanatomba continued that the office will not be allowed to open until the Executive Officer is removed.
He went on to state that more agitations will be launched if their demands are not entertained.
