Imphal, April 05 2023:
Union minister for road transport & highways Nitin Gadkari has said that the work for upgrade of NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul) road is being targeted for completion by May, 2024 even though progress of the work has been hampered due to delay in land acquisition and forest clearance.
In his reply to an unstarred question raised by MP Leishemba Sanajaoba regarding status of the NH-202 road development work in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Nitin Gadkari said that the Yaingangpokpi to Finch Comer stretch of the road is being executed in two packages of 17km and 14km respectively.
Out of the total 17km in package 1, land for 18 km has been acquired by the government of Manipur while compensation estimate for an 850 metre stretch on the same route is under finalisation by DC Ukhrul and DC Kangpokpi.
In respect of package 2, land in the entire 14km has been handed over to state government while forest department accorded forest clearance for both the packages on March 1, 2023.Present physical progress achieved in package 1 is 52.03 per cent and 42.52 per cent for package 2, Nitin Gadkari informed the House.
The reply came after MP Sanajaoba asked why the upgrading and expansion work of NH-202 road from Yaingangpokpi to Finch Corner is not progressing satisfactorily even after completion of three years.
He also urged the minister to specify problems responsible for hampering the work progress, if any, and sought the targeted date for completion of the work.
