K Shanathoiba, Th Chaoba receive Padma awards

President Droupadi Murmu presented three Padma Vibhushan, five Padma Bhushan and 45 Padma Shri awards during the Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan darbar hall, New Delhi on Wednesday.
Two from Manipur, namely Kakchingtabam Shanathoiba Sharma and Thounaojam Chaoba Singh were among those who were honoured with Padmashri awards.
The President presented the Padma Shri to Shanathoiba Sharma for sports and Thounaojam Chaoba for his contribution in public affairs in the last four decades.
The Padma award is in recognition of Chaoba's tireless endeavour for uplift of rural agriculturists, encouraging youth to pursue sports and spearheading 'One Village One Tank' programme to provide water tanks in remote areas.
Shanathoiba is recognised for his contribution in the held of Thang-Ta, the indigenous martial arts form of Manipur.
Shanathoiba, who is the principal cum director of Huyen Lalong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Irilbung had also received the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award in 1993-94, Kala Bhushan Award in 2010, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2015 and Joy Patra Award in 2022.Meanwhile, chief minister N Biren has conveyed gratitude to the President for honouring the Manipuri duo and congratulated both the award recipients.
