Imphal, April 05 2023:
As fallout of the land dispute between Konsakhul and Leilon Vaiphei villages, two more villages - Lelloi Khunou and P Molding villages - have refuted claims made by Konsakhul village chairman D Adam Liangmai.
Addressing a press meet at Lelloi Khunou village on Wednesday, Lelloi Khunou village secretary Sangpu Vaiphei and P Molding village chief Kamsei Khongsai strongly condemned Konsakhul village chairman D Adam for trying to label residents of the two villages as refugees.
They said that the two villages have records of paying hill house taxes much earlier than Konsakhul and more households as well.
Sangpu Vaiphei said that Lelloi Khunou has around 100 households and is located within the boundary of Lelloi Vaiphei village.
Lelloi Vaiphei former Khullakpa Songlai Vaiphei gifted the land of Lelloi Khunou to his younger brother Tongkho and settlement began in the village in the 1900s, he said, while terming the statement of Konsakhul village chairman as unfounded and misleading.
On the other hand, Kamsei Khongsai said that P Molding village has a history of over two centuries and is one of the largest villages in Kangpokpi district with more than 300 households.
He strongly condemned the remark of Konsakhul chairman, who termed P Molding as a village founded by Kuki UG groups.
He also refuted the allegation of the two villages indulging in poppy cultivation and polluting Singda Dam water while stating that there is not a single record of poppy cultivation in the jurisdiction of the two villages.
He further demanded Konsakhul village chairman to stop making such misleading remarks aimed at creating animosity among villages and their residents.
He also demanded him to publicly apologise for his misleading remark against the two villages while cautioning of taking up legal actions if he fails to apologise.
Mention may be made here that Konsakhul submitted a memorandum signed by its chairman D Adam Liangmai to the Governor, chief minister, DC & SP Kangkpokpi while claiming that 21 villages in the vicinity of Konsakhul villages are under the jurisdiction of Konsakhul.
