Imphal, June 29 2014:
A man was found murdered and abandoned at Leimaram Maning Thingel Dam, Bishnupur district under Nambol police station this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Nongthombam Raghuchand alias Richi (31) of Oinam Bazar.
He was found dead by some villagers who went to work in the paddy fields, informed a source.
Wounds inflicted by heavy objects were found on Raghuchand's head and right abdomen.
He was bleeding from the nose and ears.
Nambol police have picked up and deposited the corpse at RIMS morgue in addition to registering a case.
In the meantime, a public meeting was held today at Oinam Bazar during which a joint action committee against the murder of Raghuchand was formed.
The JAC resolved that Raghuchand's corpse would not be claimed until and unless the murderers are booked.
Speaking to media persons at Oinam, JAC secretary Nongthombam Sushindro said that no other decisions have been adopted so far.
Nonetheless, womenfolk staged a protest demonstration at Oinam Bazar today condemning the brutal murder and at the same time urging the State Government to punish all the culprits.
According to information received from the family, Raghuchand went to attend a birth ceremony (Swasti Pujah) of one of his friends' child last morning.
He did not return the whole day.
As informed by police personnel posted at Leimaram outpost, some family members went to the spot and found that the deceased was Raghuchand.
As Raghuchand did not return, his elder sister Purnima went to his friend's place and enquired about him.
The sister was told that Raghuchand might have gone to Sadu Chiru waterfall together with one Yumnam Nganthoiba (31) s/o Deben of Oinam Yumnam Leikai.
Responding to a call made by Raghuchand through his mobile phone, Nganthoiba went to the place where he was called in his Chevrolet Uva car.
But Nganthoiba turned back without reaching the waterfall as his car's registration number was of Assam State and he did not call back Raghuchand as his mobile phone balance got exhausted, Purnima said
quoting Nganthoiba.
But when Purnima insisted to see Nganthoiba's (mobile phone) call list, Nganthoiba maintained that the call list got erased automatically as the phone's memory became full.
Nganthoiba, on his journey to Heinoubok, came across some other friends who too attended the Swasti Puja ceremony.
There too, Nganthoiba told his friends that he went to Sadu Chiru waterfall but turned back mid-way as his car documents were not complete.
Later in the night, family went to Nambol to file a report but they filed the report at Leimaram outpost as suggested by Nambol Police.
In connection with the murder, four persons including Nganthoiba have been pulled up by police for questioning.
