Imphal, June 29 2014:
When the elders and women of Sagolband Tera Sapam Leikai went to encash their old age pension and widow pension from the State Bank of India, the staffs in MG Avenue branch and Canchipur branch of the bank did not allow them to withdraw their due pensions, alleged Sapam Basanta, the Upa-Pradhan of Sagolband Tera Sapam Leikai Gram.
He further informed that the staffs of these SBI branches told them that the withdrawal of money would be possible, if it is done by two persons namely Ch.
Dhanajit Singh and Chingsubam Premabati Devi.
In a press meet organized along with a number of other disgruntled pensioners, Basanta told media persons that the pensioners were asked to open bank accounts at the said SBI branches to enable them to encash their pensions and they have done that judiciously.
But the staffs of the concerned bank branches disallowed them to withdraw their pensions.
It is known that pension amounts for 9 months have been deposited to the respective accounts of the beneficiaries, he added, while informing that those who have their accounts in Punjab National Bank have already withdrawn their money.
Dissatisfied over the statement of the bank staffs, Basanta asked, 'under what guidelines the bank has entrusted the two unknown persons to encash the pension amounts of around 200 elders of the area?' .
