Imphal, June 29 2014:
Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan Yasuhisa Kawamura, quoting war historians, stated that 78,000 Japanese soldiers were involved in the Imphal Campaign of the Second World War.
Out of them 49,000 were killed in action.
Interacting with a few media persons at Hotel Classic this morning, Yasuhisa Kawamura said that he found Manipur very impressive.
It is the second time the Japanese diplomat is visiting the State.
However, he denied any knowledge about establishment of a Japanese hospital in Manipur.
"I've no idea about Japanese involvement in Manipur Sericulture Project Phase-II", Kawamura said.

At present, the Japanese Government's focus is on loan programmes, infrastructure development, road connectivity and electricity.
The Government of India would be consulted to see if any improvement programmes can be initiated with regard to the memorial complex located at Red Hills or the Maibamlotpa Ching.
The Embassy of Japan can cater to certain requirements of NGOs in this regard.
Manipur is now a perfect place for reconciliation of the warring countries of World War II.
The Japanese diplomat also expressed deep appreciation of the short film 'Imphal 1944' produced by compatriot actor/producer/director Junichi Kajioka.
