Imphal, September 25 2014:
Maintaining that the people of Manipur are confused over the area coverage of the cease fire agreement between Government of India and NSCN-IM and its applicability within the territory of Manipur, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) has demanded the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to produce a white paper on the matter ahead of the Hiyanglam by-poll.
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, JD-U president Moirangthem Tombi pointed out that Government of India's interlocutor RN Ravi maintained the cease fire does not extend to Manipur.
But NSCN-IM has been contending that it is effective in Manipur too and the outfit has been operating in different parts of Manipur.
The peace dialogue deserves appreciation but it should not hurt the sentiments of any community of Manipur, Tombi said.
With the State Government always dragging its feet when it comes to addressing public issues, Manipur is now buried under a mountain of issues, Tombi remarked while appealing to all concerned to make the Hiyanglam by-poll free and fair.
JD(U) would not field its candidate in the by-election but would go together with like minded parties, he added.
