Gender budget needed in State plan: Dr Chinglen

Stressing the need for gender equality in the society, Associate Professor of Economics Department, Manipur University Dr Chinglen Maisnam has said that the State should include gender budget in its annual plan.
He was speaking as a special invitee of the foundation day of All Manipur Democratic Women's Association held at Manipur Press Club here today.
Dr Chinglen further said that both men and women are victims of violence in the State.
As per government reports, about 111 people have committed suicide during the last three years.
Out of those 111 suicide victims, half of them are women.
It is evident from this data that women are living in a bad condition in the State.
The State Government should include gender budget in its annual plan taking into account of the deplorable condition of the women, he added.
The foundation day was attended by President of All Manipur Democratic Women's Association M Randhoni, Associate Professor of Economics Department of Manipur University Sofia Arambam and Associate Professor of GP Women's College Y Sunitibala as presidium members.
