Imphal, September 25 2014:
In condemnation of the ill treatment meted out to laborers engaged in FCI godown by not allocating works to them, wives of the laborers took out a begging rally by holding empty bags in their hands and stormed offices of several political parties today.
The women protesters first stormed the temporary office of Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution (CAF & PD) at Sanjenthong Guest House but found no one in the office.
They then headed towards Nityapat Chuthek and tried to storm the office of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh there.
However, their attempt was foiled by security personnel deployed in the area.

Later, some of them were allowed to meet president of BJP Manipur Pradesh during which they apprised the party's president of difficulties being faced by the families following non-allocation of works to the laborers.
After hearing their unwarranted problems, the party's president handed over a sum of Rs 2000 each to the women protester. Speaking to media persons, one of the women protesters said that works were not allocated to the laborers who have been working in the godown for the last many years as they were replaced by other hired laborers outside the godown and lamented that families of the laborers are reeling under starvation ever since works were not allocated to them.
She stated that they were compelled to take out the begging rally as the authorities concerned have failed to address grievances of the laborers so far.
After coming out from the office of BJP Manipur Pradesh, the women protesters then stormed the Congress Bhavan.
However, no one was found present in the office at that time.
The aggrieved protesters also met leaders of CPI Manipur State Unit during which hardships they are going through were highlighted.
Understanding their problems, the CPI leaders extended a sum of Rs 1000 to each of them and also presented certain quantities of rice.
The party's leaders also assured them that the party will extend all possible help to ensure that their grievances are addressed at the earliest possible.
