The 5th edition of the Fit-India School Week Celebration-2023 was held at SK Ideal High School compound, Ngairangbam, Imphal West today.
The celebration was graced by MP Rajya Sabha Leishemba Sanajaoba and Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Leishemba Sanajaoba said India is a diverse country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a leader who is working hard at the micro level for the welfare of the people.
The Fit India Movement was launched on August 29, 2019 by the Prime Minister and is being celebrated across India, he said.
Continuing that the aim and objective of launching Fit India is to make students health conscious and become healthy and fit, he said that the movement is meant for development of the student community.
More than two lakh schools including SK Ideal School are participating in the Fit India movement.
He advised students to follow healthy habits, eat good food and lead a healthy life style.
He also assured to look into the needs and requirements of the school and discuss with the authority concerned for upgrading the school to higher secondary.
Speaking as president, Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan said that after the launching the Chief Minister's School Fagathansi Mission, the Government took initiative of planting saplings within the SK Ideal School campus for preservation of the environment.
He appreciated activities being taken up by the teachers and students for protecting and nurturing the trees planted for their proper growth.
Maintaining that cutting down of trees causes scarcity of water and environmental degradation.
Dr Ranjan encouraged students to plant more trees.
He appealed to the students to be disciplined and pay respect to teachers, parents and elders.
Ranjan also advised the students of the school to avoid drugs.
The Government and police only cannot solve the problems of drugs, people should also proactively lend their support.
People should also help drug users rehabilitate.

Regional Director (i/c) SAI Takyelpat Lianminthang; Zonal Education Officer Zone-I Sucheta Khumukcham and Nodal Officer, Fit-India Education (S) Department Dr LW Ananta attended the event as guests of honour.
Headmaster of SK Ideal High School Tongbram Babudhon Singh, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, parents and guardians also attended the celebration.
