State likely to face cold wave for couple of days

The state is experiencing a cold wave with temperature almost reaching freezing point even in Imphal valley area in the last couple of days.
Meanwhile, weather reports from different sources suggest that the cold wave is likely to continue for at least two or three days until the mercury rises a little which is expected by Sunday.
According to weather report from Indian Meteorological Department, directorate of environment and climate change, Wednesday has been the coldest day in the state for the current year with Senapati district the chilliest at 2 degree Celsius.
Imphal recorded 21.7 degree Celsius high and 3.4 degree Celsius low, while Chandel recorded 23.2 degree Celsius high and 7.3 degree Celsius low.
On the other hand, weather report by accuweather, one of the global leaders in weather report and forecast related information, said that Manipur state recorded 22 degree Celsius high and 2 degree Celsius low on Wednesday.
Based on the forecast issued by accuweather, Thursday will record 23 (high) and 1 (low) degree Celsius, and Friday will record 24 (high) and 2 (low) degree Celsius while Saturday will record 25 (high) and 3 (low) degree Celsius.
The temperature will rise further on Sunday, the accuweather report said with a prediction of 26 (high) and 5 (low) degree Celsius.
Generally, the state recorded lowest temperature during the last week of December and first week of January.
However, this year the second half of January is experiencing the lowest temperature since December last year.
It may also be mentioned that January 19 last year recorded 26 degree Celsius high and 11 degree Celsius low, which shows a significant dip of the mercury this year.
The accuweather report further forecasts that air quality may be unhealthy for the next couple of days in Imphal area considering high presence of particulate matters and fine particulate matters in the air.
Health effects can be immediately felt by sensitive groups and these individuals may experience difficulty in breathing and throat irritation with prolonged exposure, the report said while suggesting to limit outdoor activity.
