Govt urged to implement Street Vendors Act 2014

Celebrating 25 years of its existence, Road Side Vendors' Welfare Association (RSVWA) has urged the state government to implement the Street Vendors Act 2014 in letter and spirit to solve all issues besetting the street vendors.
Speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of RSVWA at GM Hall, here, on Wednesday, it president Kshetri Tama, expressed strong resentment that the street vendors of Manipur have been subjected to different forms of human rights violations by the state's forces.
While reminding all concerned that women vendors are playing a vital role in improving social anti economic condition of the state, Tama said that the around 4000 women vendors of Ima Keithel are carrying out economic activities on a daily basis.
The president also recalled the roles played by women vendors in every issue faced by the state right from Nupilal incident.
She also expressed gratitude to the state government for constructing women markets in all the districts and Said that the government has now Constructed market in Lamphel where 700/800 vendors can be accommodated and also started constructing market in the area where Tombisana High School earlier existed.
Tama, however, lamented inability or hesitancy of the government to implement the Street Vendors Act 2014 in letter and spirit as directed by the Supreme Court.
As special guest of the function, All India Women Hawkers' Federation general secretary Anita Das expressed astonishment over the powers provided to women in the state and said that it has encouraged all women of the country to undertake development works for the society.
National Hawkers' Federation general secretary Saktiman Gosh was also present as special guest while National Hawkers' Federation working president Ali Bhakie, additional general secretary Devasis Das, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang, social activist RV Son Zimik and Naharolgi Thoudang editor Khoirom Loyalakpa attended as guests of honour.
