WY tablets worth Rs 2.96 crore seized

Altogether 13 bundles of WY tablets weighing 14.824 Kgs worth around Rs 2.96 crore in the international market were seized by a combined team of Tengnoupal police and troops of 20 Assam Rifles, Tengnoupal yesterday.
The drugs were seized while checking a four-wheeler (Mahindra SUV) driven by one Momon Doungel (27) s/o late Letgin Doungel of Tuibong Part III, Churachandpur at Tengnoupal police check-post at around 7 pm .
Following seizure of the contraband drugs, Momon Doungel was arrested and a case was registered at Tengnoupal police station.
On the other hand, a team of Machi police station seized 1.750 Kg of opium worth around Rs one lakh and 13 Kg of opium seed from the house of one Letkhosei Haokip (40) s/o late Thonggin Haokip of SL Zougam village, near Khoibu village on Shangshak road at around 10.30 am yesterday.
The opium and the opium seeds were found packed in two plastic packets.
As the police team reached the house, Letkhosei Haokip ran away and managed to escape but he left behind a car (Maruti Celerio).
As such, the car was seized.
In connection with the seizure, a case was registered at Machi police station.
Letkhosei Haokip is originally from Mongbung village near Sangaikot in Churachandpur district but he has been staying at SL Zougam since the last two years, sources informed.
