MSCW is for addressing women's issue: TT Monsang

Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) chairperson in-charge Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang has said that it stands for women as well as for resolving various issues confronting them.
Thumlip Monsang stated this while taking part in a one-day capacity building training programme organised for women traders/ven-dors of Ava Market, Ukhrul town on Friday.
Majority of women in the state tend to face many problems in life including domestic violence and financial burdens all by themselves, TT Monsang said and appealed to women who are facing such problems to approach MSCW in order to get their problems addressed as the commission is for women.
According to Monsang, the practice of women working as vendors or the institution of Ima market in the state dates back to the British period and thus women working in different occupations contribute around 50 percent to the state's economy.
Before women empowerment to actually become a reality, improvement of economic conditions of women is very much required, she ob served and shared ideas on how women traders/vendors could expand their business by availing various benefits from banks and government schemes.
Explaining on organising of the capacity building programme, Monsang said that it is being taken up in line with the initiative made by National Commission for Women (NCW) at the national level.
It is an initiative for em powering women of different districts in various aspects of their lives, she informed, while adding that a similar event was launched by NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma in Imphal on July 5.Speaking on the occasion, MSCW member Lourembam Dayabati Devi also highlighted the objective of the training programme, stating that the same is intended to capacitate and improve the economy of the district's women traders especially of Ava Market.
In his presidential speech, Tangkhul Leihsak Long (TLL) president Peacemoon Zimik gave a broad picture of trade and commerce situation of the township.
He said that there are around 1800 shops registered under TLL in the town which has a population of over 2 lakh.
He also informed that around 100 entrepreneurs returned home and set up their new businesses in the town during the past two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The programme was organised by MSCW under the sponsorship of National Commission for Women (NCW).
Technical sessions on banking, income tax and information technology were also held later in the evening as part of the programme and around 100 women vendors of Ava Market participated in the training programme.
