SFs seize WY tablets, opium, poppy seeds

Imphal, July 15 2022:
Tengnoupal Battalion of 1GAR (South) along with a team of Tengnoupal police station foiled cross border narcotics smuggling in Tengnoupal district and recovered 13 packages containing WIY tablets worth Rs 6.5 crore on Friday, According to PRO IGAR (S), based on specific input, the joint security team intercepted a vehicle coming from Moreh and on thorough checking recovered the smuggled consignment of WIY tablets.
The seized narcotics along with the drug peddler have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Modi Battalion of IGAR (South) in a joint operation with Manipur Police seized contraband items in between SL Zougam and Charlong villages on Thursday.
A combined team launched an operation based on specific input and consequently recovered of 1.75 kg opium, 13 kg of poppy seeds and one Maruti Celerio car from a suspected house.
The seized contraband items are assessed to be worth Rs 1.13 lakh, said the PRO in a release.
In another operation, it is reported that troops of Assam Rifles recovered nine sacks of areca nuts weighing approximately 480 kg and cases of illicit liquor hidden under foliage in Charlong village on Thursday.
The recovered items are assessed to be worth Rs.2.73 lakh.
The seized items have been handed over to Machi and Tengnoupal Police Stations for further action.
On Thursday too, Moreh Battalion of IGAR (South) recovered 1.260 kg of brown sugar worth Rs 2.52 crore which was found packed in 30 soap cases and concealed inside a bamboo basket at Govajang village in Moreh.
According to PRO IGAR (S), troops of Assam Rifles recovered the drugs from an individual, who came on a Kenbo bike, at Govajang Mobile Vehicle Check Post.
The recovered items along with the drug smuggler have been handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation.
