Accused 'freed' as police fail to submit charge sheet

An accused has been released on bail by a court as police failed to submit charge sheet in time.
The accused namely Long-jam Rakesh was released on bail by the court of CJM Imphal West on execution of Rs 1 lakh PR bond and an equal amount of surety.
The case relates to an incident that occurred in February this year at Kakwa Naorem Leikai under Singjamei police station of Imphal West district in which one person died.
During hearing of the case on Thursday, Rakesh's counsel submitted bail application to the court.
After patient hearing of IO's report and statement of accused Rakesh's counsel, the court said that charge sheet of the case is yet to be submitted.
As per latest report, the charge sheet of the case is still in the hand of SP prosecution after IO concerned submitted the same to senior officers.
The court then directed that the accused be released on bail as per law as charge sheet of the case is yet to be submitted to the court.
The court also instructed the accused not to communicate with any prosecution witness or threaten them while in bail period and should be present when called by IO.
Further, the court directed the accused not to leave Manipur without the knowledge of the court or indulge in any crime.
