CCpur, September 02 2021:
Churachandpur finally appears to have passed the peak of the Covid-19 second wave as August logged the lowest positivity rate as well as lowest deaths since May.
The random testing conducted in the past four days across four populated locations involving 712 samples too drew a test positivity rate of 0.56 percent as just 4 people tested positive.
The district recorded 1128 new cases in August with 27 deaths reported during the same period.
The new cases were less than waht was reported in May though the number of tests conducted in August was higher by a couple of thousands.
The positivity rate for August too dropped to 11 percent.
The positivity rate for May was 12 percent while it was 13 percent in June and 17 percent in July.
Decline in new cases like any other districts of the State was apparent since the second half of August but unwilling to take any chances, the District Covid Task Force has decided to ramp up the test rates and announce random testing at various crowded places.
Accordingly random testing was conducted at various locations identified by the district administration, which so far drew less than 1 percent positivity rate.
The Additional DC Khaikhopau Ngaihte said despite the low positivity rates recorded in the random testing, the district task force has no plan to reduce the tests for now.
Besides the tests that were already planned, mass testing has been planned for all the banks, he said.
According to an official order issued today, 10 banks located within Churachandpur town will be taking mass testing from tomorrow.
The SBI Churachandpur branch wherein one of its staff has tested positive a couple of days back will undertake the mass testing tomorrow, while the Punjab National Bank, Axis Bank, Central Bank of India, ICICI, IDBI, Canara Bank, SBI Tuibong, UCO and HDFC will undertake the mass testing on 6 Sept, 8 Sept, 10 Sept, 13 Sept, 15 Sept, 17 Sept, 20 Sept, 22 Sept and 24 Sept respectively.
