Drugs factory busted at cop's house

A combined team of Narcotics Cell, Imphal East, Thoubal police commandos (Cdo), Andro police station, Imphal East Cdo, SDC branch officer, Imphal East district magistrate and volunteers of Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) apprehended two persons including a head constable and busted a drug making unit at Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The joint team also seized drugs and drug-making equipment worth Rs 90 crore in international market.
The arrested duo has been identified as Md Mujibur Rahman (42) son of (L) Md Fazal Karimof Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai, who is presently serving as a police head constable in Tamenglong district, and Md Firoj (19) son of Md Oli of Yairipok Tulihal Toubokpi.
According to police report, the combined team under the supervision of Imphal East SP and under the command of SDPO Porompat cordoned off the residence of Mujibur Rahman and seized huge quantity of drugs and items for manufacturing brown sugar around 1.30 am.
The police team seized 430 kg of opium found packed in 11 bags and 40 kg of suspected brown sugar kept in three bags.
The recoveries included one each police I-card, Nokia phone, LPG cylinder, gas burner, three aluminium containers, four potable water containers, two immersion heaters, four empty plastic bottles of ammonium chloride white in colour, two plastic bottles packed with 1 kg each of ammonium chloride and a Bolero (MN07D-3311) silver in colour, the police report said.
As per the disclosure of Mujibur Rahman, he is the manufacturer while one Md Hero of Thoubal Moijing is the distributor of refined brown sugar and Md Firoj is transporter of raw materials.
Firoj was subsequently rounded up from his residence along with a smart phone at about 2:30 am.
The arrested people along with the seized materials have been handed over to Andro police station for necessary action against, the police added.
Police sources said the operation was conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate.
Superintendent of police (Imphal East) N Herojit Meetei, under whose supervision the operation was carried out, praised the police personnel.
"It is unbelievable that such a drug factory was operated at such a densely populated area," the SP said.
"We will carry out formal investigation into the matter.
We have also informed the Tamenglong district police for taking necessary legal action against Rahman," he added.
