Jiribam, September 02 2021:
Highlighting the inconveniences faced by farmers and general population of Jiribam, Sorok Atingbi GP Level Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited has urged authorities concerned to open the already completed Manipur State Cooperative Bank (MSCB).
In a joint press conference organised by the Cooperative Society and Dibong GP Level Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd at Dibong Khunou Karong on Wednesday, GP level society vice president Pukhrambam Ibocha said that there is only one nationalised bank in Jiribam till date despite grant of full district-hood five years back.
Informing that the lone nationalised bank - Punjab National Bank had been catering to financial transaction requirements of customers from other nearby areas including Tamenglong and Pherzawl districts and even Assam's Cachar district, he said customers generally head for the bank from 2am onwards by reserving vehicles in order to remain in the queue that often stretches to nearly one kilometre.
However, many of the consumers return home a dejected lot as the bank could not ensure relevant service to all, he said, while demanding authorities concerned to open the Manipur State Cooperative Bank for the sake of farmers and people.
Similarly, GP Level Society member Yumnam Chandrasakhi urged the government to issue necessary directive for the existing bank to open on all working days instead of just three days a week in due consideration of the problems being faced by the people.
She also stressed the need for ensur ing availability of cash in the only ATM booth of Jiribam so as to ease hardships besetting the people.
