Imphal, September 02 2021:
The apex body of Tangkhul community, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has dismissed statement of INC leader Jairam Ramesh made on mismanagement of urea in the state as misleading and far from truth.
TNL president Hopingson A Shimray said that Jairam's comment implies that hill people are lawless and freely practicing illegal poppy plantation without any sense of abiding by the law of the land and therefore condemned his statement.
Strongly refuting Jairam's perception, TNL said that on February 25, 2021, a conglomerate of 33 tribes from all the hill districts of Manipur took a pledge to do away with poppy cultivation in support of government's declaration 'war on drugs' campaign.
The event hosted by Meitei Leepun at BOAT was attended by many village and CSO leaders, high dignitaries, DCs and SPs of all hill districts as well as CM Biren.
It maintained that as far as Ukhrul and Kamjong districts are concerned, all civil society organisations have taken a strong resolution that no village/people would be allowed to indulge in poppy plantation and all the villages have extended fullest cooperation during mass destruction of poppy plantations in Ukhrul district led by the Ukhrul SP.
"Therefore, it is reminded that we the hill people of Ukhrul district and Kamjong areas arenot lawless people, and such uninvited derogatory remarks may not be passed on us for political mileage and to tarnish the image of the hill people, '' added the release.
