Imphal, September 02 2021:
While stating that it is unfortunate of Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit to make false claims alleging the government of selling urea in the black market and supplying the same for poppy plantations amidst the urea shortage issue, Agriculture minister O Lukhoi has conveyed that Sugnu AC was allocated excess of its required urea for this year so as to make it in time for the harvest of Kharif crops.
Addressing a press meet held at his office chamber here on Thursday, Lukhoi expressed regret on seeing the baseless propaganda being spread against the department, while it is trying its level best to provide urea to the farmers of the state.
"It is possible that MLA Ranjit made the statements due to lack of understanding of the dates recorded in the department.
However, it is wrong of him to try to portray the government in bad light.
The MLA's remarks against the CM over his (CM) announcement of addressing the shortage of urea within a week, during the recent Assembly session is also unfortunate, considering that the Department had already been distributing urea during the Assembly session", he remarked.
The minister continued: "MLA K Ranjit required around 8832 bags of urea for Sugnu AC and as per his request, 8500 bags were provided to him in person.
The department also assessed the total requirement to around 9000 bags.
However, around 10,500 bags of urea have been allocated to Sugnu AC till date.
Additionally, around 300 bags of urea will again be distributed on Friday through the DAO and DC concerned at Lupa Marup of Wangoo.
Thus, total number of bags of urea provided is 10,800, which is in excess of the required quantity.
Furthermore, as there is no rule preventing distribution of urea bags to the MLAs, social activists, civil societies, intending candidates, etc., the department has been providing the same to the aforementioned.
If there are still claims that the urea is not being provided despite having received excess allocation, the same could be cleared in a joint discussion with the department and the parties who have taken the urea bags" .
