Thoubal, September 02 2021:
Seeking the attention of the government, a job card holder namely Elangbam Asharani has alleged that Keirao Makting GP Ward No 9 member's wife Laishram Nandorani beat her for withdrawing wage credited into her own bank account.
Speaking to media persons at Keirao Makting GP Panchayat Ghar on Thursday, Asharani explained that the government of India launched MGNREGA scheme for providing jobs to every citizen of the country.
However, it is unfortunate that such noble scheme is being misused by Keirao Makting ward member, she added.
Informing that she withdrew the wages of job card credited into her bank account on August 23, Asharani said that ward member Laishram Surjit's wife Nandorani came to her house informing that the job card wages have been credited and further demanded the same.
After replying that the money had already been withdrawn and spent, Nandorani pressured her to hand over the amount using strong words claiming that everyone complied to her insistence.
Upon mentioning that elders of the family are not well and urged to talk about the issue latter, Nandorani beat her up and even bite her hand.
Asharani urged the government to look into the matter where the rights of the poor people have been violated and beaten if the people oppose them.
Pointing out that the amount credited into the bank account is her first, Asharani said that she did not know how elected representatives withdraw wages of job card holders earlier.
Moreover, several wrongs have also been committed in violation of the guidelines, she alleged.
She further urged for taking action against the ward member's wife for beating her.
A written complaint has also been lodged at Irilbung PS OC and Imphal East SP, she added.
