Assam Rifles foils smuggling bid

Imphal, January 13 2023:
Shangshak Battalion of IGAR (South) foiled timber smuggling in general area Finch Comer in Ukhrul district on Friday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the troops intercepted and recovered one loaded Tata truck along with two persons while smuggling illegal timber near Finch Corner village.
The timber was evaluated to be worth of Rs 1.44 crore.
The timber along with apprehended smugglers, vehicle and driver has been handed over to Forest department, Kamjong for further legal action.
Somsai Battalion of IGAR (South) also foiled smuggling of contraband in Senapati district on Friday.
Based on credible intelligence, an MVCP was established at Phaibung Khunou village and the troops intercepted and recovered five loaded pickup vehicles with 10 individuals smuggling contraband items including betel nuts and were moving towards Dimapur to sell the items.
The contraband was evaluated to be worth Rs 66.30 lakh.
The contraband along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles has been handed over to OC Phaibung Police Station for further legal action, added the PRO in another release.
