Thoubal, January 13 2023:
The mortal remains of Saikhom ongbi Khundrakpam Ningol Shanti of Khangabok Part-III Makha Leikai who was found dead in her bedroom in a suspicious manner on January 9 have been deposited at JNIMS morgue again following an argument between two families.
Reportedly, the corpse of Shanti was claimed by the husband's family today only to be re-deposited at the morgue after her paternal side objected to it.
Speaking to media persons, brother of the deceased Kh Sunil said that the two families, during a meeting at the Thoubal SP office yesterday, have decided to let the son of the deceased perform the last rites at Khangabok and in their presence.
Claiming that the body of Shanti, however, was claimed without sending any notice to them by the other family at around 10 am today, he maintained that they came to know of the development only after they went to JNIMS.
He appealed to the Government to let them perform the last rites and take actions against the IO and other staff concerned who allowed only the husband's side to claim the body with out giving any information to them.
Reportedly, the paternal side of Shanti tried to lake the body to her native village but the endeavour was stopped by police near Thoubal police station, following which they stormed towards the gate of Thoubal police station.
To solve the disagreement between the two families, a meeting was convened at Thoubal DC office in the attendance of Thoubal SP and DC but it ended conclusive.
Afterward, the corpse has been re-deposited at JNIMS morgue.
