Black Day observance begins

Imphal, January 13 2023:
The Black Day Observance, which is being organised by International Observance on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP) under the theme 'Remember, Revive and Review' in commemoration of the historic incident of burning the Puya (old manuscript) has begun at Eternal Spring English School, Sekta Awang Leikai from Friday.
COHSEM secretary Ch Biren and ICOP convenor Moirangthem Naokhamba attended inaugural function of the three-day observance as chief guest and president respectively while host school's governing body president Khaidem Yaiskul, principal Laishram Raghumani and Village Development Committee Sekta president Khaidem Tomba were present as guests of honour.
The observance began with unfurling of the Seven Salai flag at half-mast.
Altogether 30 schools are participating in the observance this year by donning black badges.
The main function of the closing ceremony will be held Elangkhanpokpi Mamang Leikai during which Maichou Ningshing Mana will be presented to late Elangbam Tompok (posthumous) of Elangkhanpokpi Awang Leikai and RS Dominic Ahao of Ukhrul.
Meetei National Front (MNF) organised the first observance in 1978 and it continued the annual observance for 34 years before ICOP was formed by uniting likeminded organisations in 2011 to take over the responsibility of organising the observance every year.
