Imphal, May 13 2012:
The cleanliness drive launched in Imphal city, with pick up trucks adorned with bells and all, has literally run into the ugly posters and graffits that adorn the walls of private residences, public buildings and Government and private institutions.
Nowhere is the callousness of the people concerned more visible than the historic Ima Keithel at Khwairamband bazar, with its newly constructed building now lying defaced by various posters of different hues and colours.
The posters range from the garish pictures of films pasted on the pillars of the market place standing in stark contrast to the orchids put up at the market place by the European Maniuri Association.
It is not only the market place which has been adorned by some of these garish and ugly posters, but even school walls have not been spared.

When The Sangai Express contacted an official of MAHUD today, the official replied that the Imphal Municipal Council does not have an Act or a Bye-Law to stop pasting posters at public places.
In Guwahati an Act/Bye-Law has already been passed to check such practices of defacing the walls and pillars of public places, maintained the official.
Other than posters, graffitis and loud paintings can be seen on the walls of Government and private buildings in Imphal.
The efforts taken up by EMA at Ima Keithel stands in stark contrast to the garish posters put up by different agencies.
