NSF proposes 4-point appeal to settle border dispute

Imphal, May 13 2012:
Naga Students' Federation (NSF) held a joint meeting with Jessami Public Leaders, Pochuri Public Forum (PPF), Jessami Youth Organisation, Matikhru Students' Union, Matikhru Village Council, Tankhul Students Union (TKS), Chakesang Students' Union and ANSAM on the issue arising between Jessami and Matikhru- Meluri villages at Akash Bridge yesterday.
During that meeting the NSF proposed a 'four-point appeal' to both sides so as to settle the issue amicably within the Nagas family.
The four-point appeal include settlement of the issue through village to village dialogue, respect and regard of Naga ancestral and traditional boundary by both the groups as per the customs of Nagas, not to allow the issue between the Naga villages to become inter- state issue but settle amicably within the Nagas without inviting state government forces by both sides and to urge both the groups to support and cooperate with the initiative and effort of Tanghul Naga Long (TNL) and Pochury Public Forum (PPF) towards bringing a permanent settlement.
According to a statement issued by Assistant General Secretary of NSF Tongpang Ozukhum, both the parties appreciated and agreed to abide by the four-point appeal made by the Federation.
The parties also acknowledged that the NSF shall intervene in the issue if any party go against the appeal made by the NSF.
The NSF delegation also inspected the burnt granaries at Meluri village and expressed displeasure at the unfortunate incident and urged both the communities to desist from such actions in the future, the statement informed.
The Federation has also appealed to the state government to provide ex-gratia and compensation to affected victims.
