Imphal, May 13 2012:
The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) facilitated a joint meeting with the Jessami public leaders, the Pochuri Public Forum (PPF), Jessami Youth Organisation, Matikhru Students' Union, Matikhru Village Council, Tankhul Students Union (TKS), Chakesang Students' Union and ANSAM on the issue arising between Jessami and MatikhruMeluri villages at Akash Bridge.
During the meeting the NSF offered 'four point appeal' to both sides so as to settle the issue amicably within the Nagas family.
The proposals were, the issue should be settled through village to village dialogue; Naga ancestral and traditional boundary should be respected by both the groups as per the customs of the Nagas; the issue between the Naga villages should not be allowed to become interstate issue but should be amicably settled within the Nagas without inviting state Government forces by both sides.
Both the groups were also urged to support and cooperate with the initiative and effort of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Pochury Public Forum (PPF) towards bringing a permanent settlement.
Both the parties appreciated and agreed to abide by the four point appeal made by the federation.
The parties also acknowledged that the NSF shall intervene in the issue if any party go against the appeal made by the NSF.
The NSF delegation also inspected the burnt granaries at Meluri village and expressed displeasure at the unfortunate incident and urged both the communities to desist from such actions in the future.
The NSF also appealed to the State Government to provide ex-gratia and compensation to affected victims.
