Shillong students in solidarity to justice cry for Richard Loitam

Imphal, May 13 2012:
Decrying the gruesome and inhuman killing of Richard Loitam, a student of Acharya Institute of Architecture on April 18 and death of Dana Sangma, a student of Management in Amity University, Gurgaon, Haryana, on April 24 under mysterious circumstances, Shillong Manipuri Students' Union (SMSU), Shillong organized a sit -in demonstration at Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah, Shillong from 11 a.m to 3 pm today.
More than 500 people from various ethnic groups of North-East states, including members of Naga Students' Union, Shillong; All Bodo Students' Union, Shillong and Tripuri Students' Union, Shillong participated in the demonstration and expressed their solidarity to the parents of the victims in the fight for justice.
The participants also displayed placards inscribed with slogans like "We want Justice", "Justice delayed is justice denied", "Criminals deserve punishment not re-enforcement" etc.
On the sidelines of the protest demonstration, a signature campaign was also conducted in which more than one thousand people signed on the signature sheet.
After the protest demonstration and the signature campaign, memorandums have been forwarded to Prime Minister of India, Home Minister of India, Chief Ministers of Manipur and Meghalaya, Governors of Manipur and Meghalaya, according to a statement issued by President of SMSU, Shillong Robert Thokchom.
The protest was peaceful and very cordial, he added.
