Stranded students in Ukraine call for help

Imphal, February 26 2022:
As many as 14 Manipuri students are stranded in war torn Ukraine following a large-scale invasion by Russia.
The parents and guardians of the students stranded in Ukraine have requested the Minister of State for External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh to evacuate their wards.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, one medical student at Vinnytsia National Pirogov Medical University at Lviv in Western Ukraine on the condition of anonymity said that the Ukrainian Government had assured to evacuate them by collaborating with the concerned universities/colleges.
However, with the launch of an attack by Russia and declaration of a 30 day emergency in the entire Ukraine, the students have moved to safer places, she added.
The medical student continued that she is currently with one of her friends at Lviv which is near the Polish border and if they are unable to enter Poland, Romania or Hungary, they will face immense problems.
She also informed that she heard a report about a bus carrying some Indian students including six from Manipur heading towards Romania.
Another medical student at National Pirogov Memorial Medical University said Lviv is considered as one of the safest zones in Ukraine but the best thing would be to leave the country at the earliest as the war can escalate any moment.
In the written request to MoS RK Ranjan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the parents and guardians said they are unable to bring back their wards due to closure of airspace and emergency imposed across Ukraine and requested them to evacuate them.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has informed that the State Government is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine so as to ensure the safety of Manipuri students.
