Senior Citizens and Intellectual Association, Nambol assistant publicity secretary Dilipkumar Tongbram has conveyed that DEO Bishnupur has given assurance of taking up special steps in the six polling stations of Leimapokpam and Leimapokpam Khunpham villages under Nambol assembly constituency where many eligible voters have been unable to exercise their voting rights for the last many years.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, Dilipkumar stated that the Association works for the welfare of downtrodden people.
It has no relations with any political party and but aims to ensure conduct of free and fair election in Nambol AC.
He continued that some people from the said six polling stations hied a complaint to the Association saying that they have been unable to exercise their franchise for last 20 years.
After examining the grievances, the complaints were forwarded to CEO and DEO Bishnupur, but as there was no reply a petition was filed at Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) which then sent notices to CEO and DEO Bishnupur.
On Friday, DEO Bishnupur sent its reply to MHRC, he informed.
Dilipkumar mentioned that DEO Bishnupur in its response stated that three steps have been taken up to ensure free and fair election in the said polling stations.
These include stationing of one micro observer each in the six polling stations who will be there from start to finish of the voting process; live webcasting of the voting process in the said polling stations for minute monitoring and deployment of state and central forces at the polling stations one day ahead of the election to ensure security.
MHRC has accepted the reply of DEO Bishnupur and disposed the case accordingly, he added.
Dilipkumar further conveyed that people of two villages who could not exercise their rights earlier can now vote for candidate of their choice in the ensuing state election without any fear.
