Imphal, February 26 2022:
Many have reacted strongly against the statement of Chief Minister N Biren Singh that 'alcohol will be legalised in Manipur' if BJP comes back in power in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) in a press release strongly denounced the statement and termed it as an act to destroy the Manipuri society.
Stating that legalisation of alcohol will only worsen the situation of the society which is under the stronghold of alcohol and other intoxicants, MSC/CPI said that such statements from the Chief Minister should be condemned by all.
All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj (AMWSRDS) too decried the statement of the Chief Minister and questioned his intentions regarding the matter.
AMWSRDS maintained that such a statement reflects that the Chief Minister has no concern for the people of the State.
Stressing on the role of womenfolk and various organisations of the State who have been striving earnestly to save the people of the State from the clutch of drugs and alcohol, the women's body said that the statement of the Chief Minister has ignored the emotions of the masses just for mere political and monetary gains which is really unfortunate.
Stating that the AMWSRDS will not be taking the matter lightly and cautioned that the body won't remain as a silent spectator if the Government tries to legalise Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) in the State and called for concerted efforts to stand against such irresponsible acts or statements.
Khundrakpam Kendra Youth's Organization (KHUKYO) has also condemned the Chief Minister's statement and appealed to all not to be deceived by such an irresponsible statement.
