Imphal, October 22 2022:
Different types of tests deemed free by government including testing for dengue are being conducted at JNIMS, Institute director Professor L Deben has stated.
Addressing a press meet held at the Director's office here on Saturday, Prof L Deben said that a total of different 50 tests including for dengue, which have been declared free of cost by both the central and state governments, are being conducted at
JNIMS.
He then informed that on Friday night, a mother-child duo was brought to JNIMS with dengue symptoms.
As they needed dengue and typhoid test, they were directed to take a ticket from the ATC counter.
However, when they tried to take the ticket, the previously fitted software generated a charge of Rs 550 for dengue test and Rs 120 for typhoid test.
When the staffers were trying to figure out why charges were being generated for the free tests, the patient party sought to pay the charges for the ticket instead.
He continued that when the patient party went to Microbiology for the test, the doctor on duty gave a writing saying that the tests are to be conducted for free, after which the patient party was refunded the money and receipt taken back.
Stating that the issue was caused likely due to misunderstanding and the previous charges recorded in the software fitted into the computer, the director contended all tests deemed free by the government are still being conducted for free.
He then appealed to all concerned to contact the MS or the authority concerned if any such issue is experienced in the future.
Meanwhile, the patient party conveyed that when they brought in the mother- child duo, the staff on duty at the ticket counter informed that the ticketing machine was not working.
When they were told to go outside, the patient party pleaded and offered to pay for the ticket.
When they went for the test at Microbiology, the doctor on duty informed that the tests were free.
As such, they asked the counter to refund the money which led to a brief exchange of words.
Later, the money was refunded.
Although it is understandable, the issue was due to some misunderstandings, the patient party appealed to the staff to be more careful in this regard.
