Imphal, October 22 2022:
A six-day skill development training programme on 'value addition on fruits, vegetables and spices' organised by College of Food Technology under the aegis of Department of Agricultural Research & Education (DARE), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal and Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) concluded on Saturday.
The programme was attended by CAU director of instruction Dr S Basanta, College of Food Technology dean Ngasepam Iboyaima and Food Safety Training and Certification, state nodal officer Sougaijam Surendro as the presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, Dr S Basanta said that there are over seven lakh unemployed youths in the state and the government alone will not be able to provide jobs to these youths.
Taking up start-up schemes and venturing into agriculture-based industries may solve the problem to some extent as various industries other than those centred on agricultural produces do not last long and ultimately fail in a short duration as they depend on imports for raw material, he explained.
Dr Basanta also expressed confidence that the training programme will help the participants create jobs for themselves and others as it is
a result-oriented programme.
