World Sight Day observed in Thoubal

As in other parts of the world, National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&IM) under the aegis of Thoubal district administration observed World Sight Day-2022 on the theme 'Love your eyes' at Lilong Turel Ahanbi Darul Uloom on Saturday.
The observance was attended by Thoubal deputy commissioner Ahanthem Subash as chief guest and Chief Medical Officer Dr Y Nokul Singh as president while NPCB&IM district nodal officer Dr Ksh Memcha Devi and Darul Uloom Lilong Muhatamin Alhaj Moulana Sirajuddin (Qasmi) were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Subash stressed the need for early eye check-up for prevention from eye related diseases and further urged all to keep their eyes healthy.
Delivering the key note address, Dr Ksh Memcha informed that eye testing camps in connection with World Sight Day observance were organised at Khangabok Mayai Leikai, Darul Uloom Lilong, Tekcham Mayai Leikai and Sangaiyumpham during which 39 people were detected as cataract cases and 146 people in need of using glasses out of 1106 screened.
She informed that a team led by JNIMS ophthalmology department head professor Dr Rajkumar Vidyarani Devi conducted cataract operations on 26 people on October 18.NPCB&IM helped in transporting the patients from their respective places to the hospital, she added.
A free eye checkup camp was also held as a part of the observance and spectacles distributed to 75 people.
