Imphal, October 22 2022:
Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Dr Laishram Deben has said that free medical tests for different diseases including Dengue and Typhoid are currently underway at the institute.
Addressing the media at his office at Porompat today, Dr Deben continued that some people making unfounded allegations to tarnish the image of JNIMS when the doctors, nurses and para-medical staff of the institute are working round the clock to provide healthcare facilities to the public was unfortunate.
Recalling that two persons showing symptoms of Dengue from Laipham Khunou came to register at the counter of Accident and Trauma Centre (ATC) of JNIMS yesterday with prescriptions from a doctor, he added that the staff of ATC took Rs 550 for Dengue test and Rs 120 for Typhoid case due to technical glitches.
The two staff at ATC were not aware of the glitches and so they took the money and provided tickets to undergo medical tests, he claimed and added the money was refunded soon after they realised that tests for Dengue and Typhoid were conducted free of cost at the centre.
He also said that the two persons are undergoing treatment at the Medicine Ward of JNIMS.
Claiming that some media, however, accused JNIMS of charging money for Dengue and Typhoid tests, Dr Deben maintained that the money taken by ATC staff due to technical glitches had already been refunded to the two persons.
The patient party has also clarified that the incident took place due to miscommunication and the same was very unfortunate.
