Imphal, October 22 2022:
Theatre is a powerful medium which can send message to the heart of a man, and theatre and literature are like two faces of the same coin, said theatre critic Budha Chingtham.
He was speaking at the felicitation of Palem Panthou Cultural Trust managing trustee Dr Salam Santibala upon her winning the Lifetime Achievement Award in Theatre, and Global Achievers' International Award in Literature.
The trust organised the felicitation function at its Langjing Achouba office premises on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion as functional president, Budha pointed out that literature reflects the society but is short on communicating with large group of people immediately.
In such a situation, theatre fills the gap and as such, literature and theatre are inseparable and are like two faces of the same coin, he said.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Shantibala said she was honoured with the two awards for her contribution in the field of theatre and literature.
She has been working to uplift the status of women through her literary works for years and she feels happy on getting the recognition.
Environmentalist Dr Khangembam Samungou and Writers' Club Manipur former president Ibopishak Nongthombam also attended the function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Dr Shantibala is working as the head of Manipuri Department at L Sanoi College, Nambol.
So far, she has penned five theatre plays and published over 10 books.
She is also a theatre director and writer recognised by National School of Drama, New Delhi.
