Centre urged for transportation of food grains through NH-37

Imphal, August 13 2021:
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba called on union minister (CAF&PF) Piyush Goyal on Wednesday and urged the latter to initiate necessary process and intimate the FCI authorities for transportation of food grains allocated to Manipur through the Imphal-Jiribam sector of National Highway 37 from Jiribam railway station.
After giving patient hearing to Sanajaoba, who elucidated that it is the wish of the people of Manipur to bring the essential goods along the NH-37 route, Piyush Goyal assured to look into the matter with full compassion.
MP Sanajaoba also handed over a memorandum of All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union to the union minister which highlighted that Jiribam railway station is a diverging point for different routes to Manipur and that the Imphal-Jiribam road from the railway station has improved a lot.
While recalling that union minister Nitin Gadkari recently inaugurated the Makru Bridge, the memorandum conveyed gratitude to the Centre for facilitating smooth operation of the goods carriers.
However, FCI Zonal office Guwahati and FCI regional office Dimapur changed railhead FCD Jiribam to FCD Dimapur for transporting items from July, the memo pointed out and lamented that changing the transport route to National Highway-2 Imphal-Dimapur stretch is creating issues to the drivers.
Mention may be made here that MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has been appointed as Manipur state consultative chairman for Department of Food and Public Distribution under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
