World Organ Donation Day observed

Body and Organ Donors' Association, Manipur observed "World Organ Donation Day' at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak community hall on Friday.
The observance was attended by MU professor GA Shantibala, Association president M Joychandra, RIMS Department of Anatomy HOD Dr K Ajita, JNIMS Department of Anatomy assistant professor Dr G Tarunkumar and MS Purnima Enterprises proprietor Ningombam Ranibala as presidium me'mbers.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Shantibala said that many of the people did not know about the observance of World Organ Donation Day'.
The main idea behind observing such day is to save the lives of other people by encouraging organ donation.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfares has been appealing to the people of every community for volunteering in organ donations and saving precious lives who are in dire need, she maintained, while adding that organ donation could be done irrespective of age or race.
Even though there is no age limit for organ donation, there are strict precautionary medical measures, she added.
Shantibala explained that children below 18 years of age need permission from their parents and guardians for donating their organs.
Pointing out that organ donation in the state is not a new case; she lauded the high turnout of generous people in the state who volunteered to donate their organs.
Three people who volunteered to donate their organs namely Nongmaithem Kirankumar of Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak, Khwairakpam Sunita of Keishamthong Longjam Leirak and Heikham Chaoba of Wangjing Bazar were honoured by presenting certificates on the occasion.
Moreover, four ward corporators and two other people were approved to donate their organs during the function.
