Imphal, August 13 2021:
All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has appealed to the Chief Minister and the Agriculture Minister of Manipur on Friday for allocation of "urea fertiliser" in the hill districts of the State.
In a press statement issued by T P Dining who is ATSUM's secretary incharge of Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Veterinary, Forest and Environment, the apex tribal student body of Manipur said that the need for fertiliser in the State is seasonal, and now is the exact season for such use of fertiliser.
"Therefore, should the appeal for immediate allocation of fertilisers in the hills be not paid heed to, during this period of time, the allocation of the same in the following months will remain futile," the student body added.
ATSUM then said that the Agriculture Minister of Manipur is frequently witnessed in the media making public announcements through press conferences or public meetings stating that there is no dearth of fertiliser supply in the State and farmers are reached with fertilisers sufficiently.
"However, the case is different in ground reality," said the ATSUM statement.
It also said that the pain and grief of farmers caused by the "prevailing dreadful" Covid-19 is aggravated for want of fertilizers in the State.
ATSUM further said that farmers in the hill districts are not exceptional to these suffering.
"In fact, hill district farmers are the worst affected due to non/negligible allocation of urea fertiliser in the hill districts," it added.
In view of such "grave" circumstances, ATSUM appealed to the Chief Minister and the Agriculture minister to ease the woes of the "hill farmers" by allocating sufficient quantities of urea fertiliser in the hill districts without further delay.
