Protest held against chairman of Ichum Keirap Kom Village Authority

Villagers of Ichum Keirap Kom village protested against the chairman of Ichum Keirap Kom Village Authority, L Rekhupsong Kom alleging that he and his associates are playing divide and rule policy among the villagers thereby threatening their peaceful coexistence.
In the protest which was staged yesterday, the protesters denounced the activities of some individuals who are trying to ostracize the refugees of Kuki Naga clash who were permitted by the then Governor of Manipur's to settle in Ichum Keirap Kom village and urged the Government to take stern actions against the perpetrators.
Regarding the protest, some of the villagers stated that the Kom community who are the aborigines of the village and the refugees of the three villages of Tamenglong who took shelter in the village after the Kuki-Naga clash have been living in harmony however from 2018 when L Rekhupsong Kom became the chairman, his biased attitude and activities have disturbed the peaceful coexistence among the various communities in the village and as a result many unwanted incidents have cropped in the village.
In the light of above events, the villagers complained to Kom Union and Kuki Inpi to intervene and address the issue and accordingly a public meeting was held attended by Kom Union, Kuki Inpi and the Headmen of the surrounding villages of Ichum Keirap Kom village and took pledge that all the villagers will stay united.
But contrary to such a resolution, L Rekhupsong Kom continued with his indecent activities and baseless allegations have been made to the villagers who took refuge in the village.
The protesters stated the event of a July 17 is a result of the communal activities of the chairman and claimed that the two arrested persons in connection with the incident are innocent.
They demanded the release of the two persons at the earliest failing which they warned of taking up stringent form of agitations.
Further the protesters appealed to Federation of Haomee to refrain from intervening in the matter without proper knowledge regarding the matter.
