Imphal, September 27 2022:
Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and police department are turning a blind eye to some residents of Paona Keithel blocking the footpath and keeping their private construction materials causing a difficult situation to the commuters.
Shop owners extending their shops onto the footpath and roadside vendors carrying out their trades bn the walkway are common sights in the main market of the state.
Police sometimes try to clear the footpaths but the clearance last only till the presence police personnel after which the shops will extend their shops and roadside vendors will bring out their merchandise.
This situation definitely cause inconveniences to the public even if it does not entirely block the footpath.
Interestingly, a resident of Paona Keithel is blocking the entire footpath near Blue Bell Fashion showroom in Paona Keithel for keeping construction materials by erecting makeshift fence with CGI sheets forcing the pedestrians to walk on the road, which has already become a narrow lane due to irresponsible parking of vehicles over the parking capacity.
Despite this situation, neither the IMC nor the police are taking up any steps to address the issue.
