Nemcha assures support scheme for state weavers

Textiles, Commerce & Industry minister Nemcha Kipgen on Tuesday inaugurated Common Facility Centre (CFC) of Haorang Sabal Block Level Cluster and IDPH Projects of Imphal West at Salam village and assured of launching Preparatory Support Scheme as a component of CFC to extend benefits to the weavers in buying yarns and other materials necessary for weaving.
The newly inaugurated CFC is funded by the office of Development Commissioner for Handloom & Handicrafts and the Ministry of Textiles.
During the inaugural function, minister Nemcha announced that the "Pre paratory Support Scheme" will be implemented at the newly inaugurated CFC from October 2 onwards to support the handloom weavers.
She informed that under a new initiative benefit will be made available to the handloom weavers exclusively at the CFC such as provision of warped beam at 50 per cent on the cost yarn, pirn with weft yarn at 50 per cent on the cost yarn and Bobbins with warp yarn at 50 per cent on the cost yarn.
While noting the skill of weavers and artisans of Manipur and their contribution to economy of the state, Nemcha asserted that the state government under the leadership of CM N Biren is making all efforts to further develop the handloom and handicrafts sectors in Manipur.
The minister also informed that the Ministry of Textiles has approved and sanctioned construction of 10 Common Facility Centres (CFCs) under the National Handloom Development Programme and the same have been constructed at 10 Block Level Cluster (BLC).
Out of the 10 CFCs, five are under the Manipur Handloom and Handi crafts Development Corporation Ltd.
and the remaining under the Manipur Apex HL Weavers and HC artisans CS Ltd, she added.
She continued the main objective of setting up such CFCs at 10 Blocks is to carry out common activities of handloom, weaving and dyeing.
The Ministry of Textiles with its office in Manipur has been closely monitoring the progress of construction of the CFCs, Nemcha added.
In his address, Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd chairman MLA Kh Ibomcha pointed out that the state has abundant handloom and handicrafts artisans and it is one of the sectors which generate high income.
The central government with an objective to encourage handloom and handicrafts and increase its production initiated different schemes and programmes.
Moreover, the CM took up the initiative to use handloom products as much as possible so as to improve the sector, he continued, while adding that 'Leirum' will be used in all BJP and government programmes.
The Leirum weaved by the local weavers will be bought by the corporation so as to ease the problem of marketing.
While urging the weavers to come to his office for further details about it, MLA Ibomcha also called upon the artisans to utilise facilities of the new CFC and make it a meaningful centre.
The CFC is a centre where common activities of weavers of the surrounding area like winding, sizing, drying, warping, new design, development, etc., would be carried out.
