Kangpokpi, September 27 2022:
People of Kangpokpi town pooled their money to extend assistance to blind siblings from Chalwa village in the district.
The charity initiated jointly by Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation, Kangpokpi Youth Union, a journalist, and administrators of The Kanggui Post WhatsApp group under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee generated Rs 87,780 in cash and two bags of rice for the siblings.
The people of Kangpokpi irrespective of status and professions came to help the two blind siblings.
Kangpokpi police and officer-in-charge of Kangpokpi police station inspector Henminthang Kipgen also donated to help the duo.
The cash and material donated were handed over to the family on Tuesday at the Kangpokpi Youth Union office in the presence of Kangpokpi Town Committee members Seijang Sitlhou and Thangjangam Lhanghal, in charge of KWWO and KYU while Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship general secretary Fr Jangkhogin Chongloi dedicated the donated amount and rice and prayed for the well-being of the two blind siblings and their family.
Seiminlun Baite, father of the two, and Chongpi, their maternal aunt expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the people of Kangpokpi for their kind deed.
Among the two blind siblings, the elder one aged about 15 is now staying at a Mission Blind School in Kakching while the younger is undergoing treatment at JNIMS Hospital, Imphal.
According to Seiminlun Baite, both his sons were born normal but at the age of about 8, his elder son's eyes was hurt while playing and they rushed him to Shija Hospital at Imphal where a surgery was performed.
However, after a few years, the normal side of his son's eye began to hurt, and despite all effort and treatment, he lost vision in both eyes.
A few years later, his years old suddenly lost vision in both eyes and he could not see any more.
So, he felt very uncomfortable and started complaining day and night before he got sick and admitted to the JN Hospital for treatment, the father added.
The poor parents, having no other options, informed about their situation to KWWO president Hekim Hangshing, who then relayed the same to a local journalist and eventually led to donation drive for the blind siblings.
Unfortunately, the family was not eligible for the CMHT card as they are reportedly not included in the socio-economic and caste census.
The family as well as the civil bodies of Kangpokpi appealed to the chief minister, the local MLA and authorities concerned to issue the CMHT card for the family on humanitarian grounds.
